About Multicultural Children's Book Festival

The Kennedy Center invites all children, parents, and educators to the thirteenth anniversary year of the annual free Multicultural Children's Book Festival and to celebrate Family Literacy Day on Saturday, November 1, from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. on the Roof Level, in the Atrium, Galleries, Theater Lab, and Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center. Books come to life in this afternoon-long series of readings by authors, illustrators, and guest celebrities; book signings; and other interactive performances and events.

1:00 p.m. Nikki Giovanni A book reading by Nikki Giovanni (Millennium Stage).
1:15 p.m. Farafina Kan A performance by African drummers and dancers, Farafina Kan (Millennium Stage).
1:50 p.m. Baba Jamal Koram Storyteller Baba Jamal Koram tells spooky tales from far and near.
2:20 p.m. Edwin Fontanez A workshop with Edwin Fontanez
3:00 p.m. Dan Kelin Dan Kelin tells legends and stories of the Pacific islands.
3:30 p.m. Silk Road Dance Company in Samarkand A performance by the Silk Road Dance Company.
3:50 p.m. Adjoa Burrowes A collage workshop with Adjoa Burrowes.
5:00 p.m. Karen Brown stamping spots on glass A bookmaking workshop with Karen O. Brown.
6:00 p.m. A performance by hip hop dance company Culture Shock, featuring children's dance companies, Future Shock and Mini Shock (Millennium Stage).
